This study determined the value of daily energy expenditure related to the implementation of service and training tasks of crews of ships in the Polish Navy and officers of the Maritime Department of the Border Guard. Materials and Methods: This study included crews of two selected ships of the Polish Navy and officers of the Maritime Branch of the Border Guard. The method of analyzing heart rate changes was used to measure energy expenditure. Results: The value of daily energy expenditure related to the implementation of tasks during a cruise amounted to 3874 kcal/d for the crew of a missile frigate, and it was higher at 4031 kcal/d for the crew of a training sailing ship. Energy expenditure related to the training of ship crews staying in a port was lower, amounting to 3648 kcal/d and 3380 kcal/d, respectively. The energy expenditure of the Maritime Border Guard officers during a 12 h shift ranged from 1830 kcal/12 h to 2762 kcal/12 h. Current nutritional standards for sailors of the Polish Navy and the Border Guard officers provide an excessively high energy intake in daily food rations, which may cause overweight and obesity.energy expenditureNavynutrition securityobesityworkload : Karolina : Tomasz : Dorota : Justyna : Anna : Oryginalny artykuł naukowyACZartykuł w czasopiśmie zagranicznym4.800IF : 998599140.0000140.000PUNKTACJA KBNPUNKTACJA MINISTERSTWALISTA FILADELFIJSKAIMPACT FACTOR140.000PUNKTACJA UWM : 009859.000 : Q : 003 : Vol. 17 : CC-BY

The purpose of this study was to assess the physical activity level and nutrition, in terms of the frequency of consumption of individual food groups, of Polish Navy soldiers and Maritime Unit of the Border Guard officers. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted on 131 Polish Navy soldiers aged 33.1 ą 6.3 years old and 132 Maritime Unit of the Border Guard officers aged 38.6 ą 5.5 years old. In order to carry out research on physical activity, the International Physical Activity Questionnaire was used. Eating habits were assessed based on a Food Frequency Questionnaire for 61 groups of food products. Results: Over 80% of the soldiers and officers studied indicated high levels of physical activity. Only 8.2% of soldiers and 4.3% of officers indicated a low level of physical activity. Of the 61 food product groups analyzed, significant differences were found in the frequency of consumption of 17 products. These differences concerned almost all groups (except dairy products and eggs). Conclusions: To summarize, soldiers and officers presented high and moderate levels of physical activity. Taking into account the demonstrated frequent consumption of high-energy and high-fat products, such as sausages and red meat, as well as margarine, mayonnaise, and sugar, with the low frequency of fruit and vegetable consumption in both studied groups, it is advisable to conduct training among soldiers and officers in the field of health education.Bertrandt Jerzyeating habitsIPAQphysical activitysoldiersuniformed services.

Among these disorders, obesity is particularly distinguished and considered an epidemic-scale disease. For this reason, conducting studies on obesity and counteracting this phenomenon is essential. Research from recent years indicates a problem of excessive body weight among officers of uniformed services, who should be characterized by good health and fitness level due to the specificity of the work. As the problem of obesity affects every fourth Pole, research in uniformed services seems to be essential from health and national security perspectives. The presented study aimed to determine the elements of nutritional status in 289 students of Polish police schools and police training centers. Body composition was determined by bioelectrical impedance analysis, and bone calcification assessment was conducted by the DXA densitometric method. Based on BMI and body fat content, body weight disorders were found in 31.8% of all examined students. Densitometric test results showed changes in bone calcification of varying severity in 26.6% of the total number of respondents. The presence of obesity in students of police schools and training centers proves that the present nutrition model is energetically unbalanced, while the demonstrated disorders of bone calcification indicate an improper condition of mineral nutrition.DEXAobesityosteopeniaosteorporosispolice school.

The presence of obesity in students of police schools and training centers proves that the present nutrition model is energetically unbalanced, while the demonstrated disorders of bone calcification indicate an improper condition of mineral nutrition.^aDEXA^aobesity^aosteopenia^aosteorporosis^apolice school

The aim of the study was to verify the correlations between dietary habits, physical activity level and selected nutritional status indicators. One hundred and sixty-nine male border guard officers participated in the study. A 61-item food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) was used to assess dietary habits and a long-form International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) was used to assess physical activity. Fat mass was determined by bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) and bone calcification was assessed by the dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). Many correlations between dietary habits, as well as the physical activity of officers and body mass index (BMI), fat mass index (FMI) and visceral fat level (VFL) were found, while bone mineral density (BMD T-score) negatively correlated only with two food groups and 6 out of 61 products but did not correlate with physical activity. The results also confirmed many poor dietary habits and abnormalities in nutritional status. Thus, there is a need for nutritional education and further monitoring of health-related behaviors, as well as monitoring the nutritional status of border guard officers.^abone mineral density^aborder guard officer^adiet^afat mass index^anutrition^anutritional status^aphysical activity

Rational nutrition and proper level of physical activity play a crucial role in maintaining their good health. Therefore, knowledge about soldiers' nutrition and physical activity is essential to maintain their combat ability. The aim of this work was to assess the nutritional status and physical activity of soldiers serving in the 16th Airborne Battalion in Krakow. A total of 69 soldiers underwent this examination. Analysis of physical activity was assessed by the IPAQ - International Physical Activity Questionnaire, while frequency of food intake was assessed by the FFQ - Frequency of Food Intake Questionnaire. As a result of the examination it was found that 85% of soldiers revealed a high level of physical activity. The additional results obtained in the survey were: the consumption of fruits and vegetables was too low, the consumption of low-quality processed meats, dairy products and sugar was excessive. The conclusions of this study show that the examined soldiers were highly physically active. In addition to that, it is concluded that education about rational nutrition and nutritional prevention of civilization metabolic diseases should be introduced among soldiers.racja żywnościowaphysical activityŻołnierze są specyficzną grupą społeczną, która narażona jest na duże obciążenie fizyczne i psychiczne związane z ich służbą oraz treningami.
