Low back pain (LBP) is considered a civilization disease that affects people in an increasing number. Discopathy (degeneration of intervertebral discs) is recognised as one of LBP causes. Still, the relationship between the number of discopathy levels and LBP remains unclear. The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation between the number of discopathy levels with intensity of LBP, functional level and the degree of disability. Materials and methods. The prospective, cohort study involved 200 patients aged 27 to 55 years (44.9 ą 9.2 years) with single- or multilevel lumbar discopathy confirmed by imaging examinations. Functional examination included NRSscale, goniometric measurements, Modified Laitinen Pain Questionnaire, Oswestry Disability Index and Back Pain Function Scale. Results. There were statistically significant positive correlations between the number of discopathy levels and the age of the subjects (r = 0.266; p = 0.000), BMI (r = 0.158; p = 0.029) and ODI (r = 0.157; p = 0.026). Positive correlation (r = 0.142; p = 0.044) was also observed between the results of Fingertip-to-floortest and the number of levels of discopathy. Conclusions. The number of levels of discopathy was depended on the age and BMI of the patients. It had no effect on pain intensity, range of rotational motion of the lumbar spine and functional status of patients. As the number of levels of discopathy increased, a higher degree of everyday disability was observed.

Aim of the study: The purpose of this study was to study the factor structure of the Multidimensional Attitudes Scale Toward Persons with Disabilities (MAS) questionnaire on a sample of Ukrainian students to create an adaptation of the original version (MAS-UA). Material and Methods: The main authors of the questionnaire gave their consent for the adaptation. The Ukrainian version of the MAS was developed using the method of back translation from the original language. The proposed multi-factor structure of the MAS-UA was tested in an anonymous online study of 1619 Ukrainian students. Results: The factor analysis and a parallel exploratory factor analysis resulted in a 5-factor structure for the MAS-UA (the classic domains - cognitive, affective, and behavioral - and two additional domains, negative effects and items concentrated in the factors "Calm" and "Desire to communicate"). These five factors yielded 62.6% of the total variance score. Conclusions: The MAS-UA was developed and presented as a reliable instrument for examining attitudes toward people with physical disabilities. The instrument can be used for the initial assessment when developing prevention and educational programs in the field of social policy, as well as to evaluate their effectiveness. Studies using the adapted version of the scale (MAS-UA) will allow the comparison of results from other countries where other language versions are used.

The social inclusion of people with disabilities is possible when the barriers that hinder their everyday life are removed. Among them there are negative social attitudes and marginalization of people with disabilities which can become particularly acute. Material and methods: The aim of the research was ascertain nursing students' attitudes towards persons with physical disabilities. The research comprised 7 universities educating in the field of nursing in Poland. In total, 1323 nursing students of undergraduate and graduate studies were surveyed. The research was conducted online in the period from October 2021 to March 2022. The study used the Polish adaptation of the scale used to assess attitudes towards persons with disabilities; namely, the Multidimensional Attitudes Scale Towards Persons with Disabilities (MAS-PL). Results: Globally, the average score obtained by students on the MAS-PL scale was 82.69. The greatest differentiation of responses was shown in the emotions and cognitive subscale, while the smallest one was seen in the behavioural subscale. There was no significant relationship between the results of the MAS-PL scale and gender and the age of respondents. More positive attitudes were declared by graduate students than by undergraduate students. Statistically, there is a significantly higher global score on the scale and subscale of emotions shown by students living in a city with over 100,000 inhabitants compared to students living in the countryside. Conclusions: Place of residence and the level of study are factors related to the attitudes of nursing students towards people with physical disabilities. The attitudes of students majoring in nursing should be shaped during the implementation of the curriculum and the creation of projects enabling mutual relationships between students and persons with disabilities.

Due to negative perception, disabled individuals are often homebound. The present study was an attempt to compare declared attitudes with the results of other studies using the Polish version of an international assessment tool. The aim was to verify the MAS-PL tool and to analyse the attitudes of students of social sciences and humanities towards people with physical disabilities. An additional aim was to compare declared attitudes with the results of other studies using the Polish version of an international assessment tool for students of medicine and health sciences. In total, 540 students were surveyed using the Polish adaptation of the Multidimensional Attitudes Scale towards Persons with Disabilities (MAS-PL). The study confirmed the high reliability of the MAS-PL Scale. The mean global score of the scale was 82.79. There were no significant differences in the global MAS-PL score depending on respondents' sex; however, an effect of this variable on the subscales was found. The surveyed females exhibited more positive attitudes in terms of the cognitive and behavioural components, whereas the males showed more positive attitudes in the affective subscale. There was no significant impact of the place of residence, age, and majors. Along with the year of studies, the intensity of the global and affective scale slightly increased. The surveyed students of social sciences and humanities exhibited similar attitudes towards people with physical disabilities to those declared by Polish students of medical and health sciences surveyed by Radlińska et al. The authors recommend implementation of didactic classes, projects, and activities at the stage of planning and creation of student education programs to promote tolerance towards disabled people.

W badaniu wykorzystano: Międzynarodowy Kwestionariusz Aktywności Fizycznej (IPAQ) - w wersji krótkiej, Skalę Złożonych Czynności Dnia Codziennego (IADL) oraz kwestionariusz ankiety. Wyniki: Połowa respondentów z niepełnosprawnością trwałą negatywnie oceniła swoje relacje z nauczycielem wychowania fizycznego w trakcie zajęć. Powodem niskiej oceny tych interakcji było poczucie braku poświęcanej uwagi i zainteresowania uczniem z niepełnosprawnością ze strony nauczyciela wychowania fizycznego. Wnioski: Postawa nauczyciela wychowania fizycznego i jego zaangażowanie w proces edukacji ucznia w kulturze fizycznej, jest jednym z czynników determinujących poziom jego aktywności ruchowej w życiu dorosłym. Streszczenie: The study aimed to present retrospective assessment of the role of physical education teacher by adults with different levels of fitness in their current level of physical activity. Material and methods: The study was conducted in the Lubelskie country in randomly selected recreation centers and public health care facilities. Two groups of people took part in the study: A - with permanent physical disability and B - systematically practicing physical recreation (total of 109 respondents). The study used: International Physical Activity Questionnaires (IPAQ) - in a short version, The Lawton Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) Scale and a survey questionnaire. Results: Half of the respondents with permanent disability negatively assessed their relations with the PE teacher. The reason for that result was a sense of lack of attention and low interest of a PE teacher. Conclusions: The role of the PE teacher is important when shaping the level of student's physical activity.

Long-lasting spinal over-load results in pain syndromes leading to limitations in everyday and professional life. Material and Methods: The research included 106 adult males working as farmers for at least 10 years. The control group included 50 male white-collar workers. Four research tools were used: an interview questionnaire, a questionnaire assessing pain intensity and limitations in everyday func-tioning of study participants, a Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) measuring pain intensity and Oswestry Disability Index. Results: The research revealed that as many as 86% of the farmers (91 individuals) experienced low back pain. In the control group only 64% of all the white-collar workers complained of pain in this part of the spine. The farmers defined their low back pain as constant pain or stiffness significantly more often. In addition, they reported hip pain radiating to one or 2 legs and experienced chronic and acute back pain more frequently. The total time in which they experienced this pain was usually 11-20 years. The correlation be-tween pain intensity measured on a numeric scale and the level of disability of farmers was revealed. Conclusions: The research revealed that individual farmers complained of low back pain significantly more often. The pain was usually defined as constant pain, chronic pain, acute pain or hip pain radiating to legs.

Metoda badań. Analiza literatury, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem studium dwóch przypadków medycznych. Wyniki i wnioski. Przytoczone przykłady potwierdzają skuteczność i wielostronne działanie terapii z udziałem zwierząt, niemożliwej do zastąpienia przez jakąkolwiek inna metodę rehabilitacji. Streszczenie: Introduction. Specific properties of animals were appreciated already in the prehistoric hunter-gatherer societies, as exerting positive influence on human health and well-being. Over the centuries there were occasional attempts to include therapeutic use of animals in healing, but it only in the 60-ties and 70-ties of 20th century the animal-assisted activities and therapies gained acceptation as scientifically accepted medical methods. Aim. To collect and compare forms, functions and effects of the most popular animal-assisted therapies, using mainly the following species: horses (hippotherapy), dogs (kynotherapy), cats (felinotherapy) and dolphins (dolphinotherapy). Methods. The analysis of specialist literature, with a special emphasis on two studies of medical cases. Results & Conclusions. The quoted examples confirm an exceptional effectiveness and versatility of animal-assisted therapies, irreplaceable by any other rehabilitation techniques.

Fakt ten wynika z powszechności i rozmiaru tego zjawiska. Z roku na rok wzrasta liczba osób o różnym stopniu niepełnosprawności. Jest to spowodowane procesem starzenia się społeczeństwa, jak również wzrastającą ilością zagrożeń cywilizacyjnych. Celem badań było poznanie opinii osób niepełnosprawnych na temat uczestnictwa i znaczenia w ich życiu turystyki rowerowej. Badania rzeprowadzono w 2010 roku na terenach wschodniej Polski. Popularność roweru używanego do celów rekreacyjnych i turystycznych w ostatnim czasie wyraźnie wzrosła. Turystyka kolarska, spacery, wycieczki, a nawet wielodniowe wędrówki na rowerze są atrakcyjnym sposobem wypełniania wolnego czasu. Streszczenie: Disability is one of the major problems of contemporary world. This fact results from the universality of this phenomenon. Each year, the number of people with varying degrees of disabilities increases. It is due to the aging of population as well as the growing number of civilization threats. The objective of the study was to recognize the opinions of disabled people on the participation and importance of cycling tourism in their lives. The studies were conducted in 2010 in the Eastern Poland. The popularity of bicycle used in recreation and tourism has recently increased. The cycling tourism, walking, trips, and even multi-day cycling tours are attractive ways for disabled people to spend their free time.
