Materials and methods: The study was conducted in a group of 222 women aged 35-45 years who attended outpatient physiotherapy treatments at the Health and Rehabilitation Centre in Biala Podlaska for chronic diseases of the locomotor system between September and November 2021. Based on the value of the BMI index, the subjects were divided into three groups: normal BMI values, overweight, and obese. The prevalence of locomotor disorders was evaluated in these groups. A diagnostic survey method using the author's questionnaire was used to determine leisure-time activities and diet. Results: It was proved that the nature of degenerative changes in the locomotor system is related to the value of the body mass index (BMI) and the lifestyle of the subjects. In women with a normal BMI, lumbosacral and cervical spine pain as well as painful shoulder syndrome and tennis elbow were the most common. In contrast, in overweight and obese subjects, in addition to lumbosacral spine pain, knee and hip pathological states were the main reasons for physiotherapy treatments. Conclusions: Overweight and obese women make more dietary mistakes than those with a normal BMI and prefer passive leisure activities.^alocomotor

The aim of this study was to analyse potential associations between polymorphisms of PPARA (rs1800206), PPARD (rs1053049; rs2267668) and PPARG (rs1801282) and overweight parameters. One hundred and sixty-six males, unrelated Caucasian military professionals, were recruited in the genetic case-control study conducted in the period 2016-2019. All the participants were aged 21-41 and had similar levels of physical activity. Body mass, height and body composition were measured. The participants were divided into two groups depending on their BMI (body mass index) and FMI (fat mass index). The control group consisted of people with BMI between 20.0 and 25.0 or FMI values ? 6, while the overweight group consisted of people with BMI of ? 25.0 or FMI values > 6. Genomic DNA was isolated from extracted buccal cells. All samples were genotyped using real-time polymerase chain reaction (real-time PCR). It was found that two polymorphisms rs2267668 and rs1053049 of the PPARD gene were significantly associated with BMI: SNP rs2267668 for the dominant (OR = 2.04, 95%CI 1.01-4.11, p-value = 0.04) model (A/G-G/G vs A/A). The likelihood of being overweight was over 2 times smaller for allele A. A relationship between the polymorphism of PPARG (rs1801282) and BMI was found for the overdominant (OR = 2.03, 95%CI 1.03-4.00, p-value = 0.04) model (C/G vs C/C-G/G). Significant associations were found in different models for PPARD, PPARG and PPARA genes with BMI. In SNP rs2267668 for the codominant genetic model (G/G vs A/A) (p-value = 0.04) and : Anna : Aleksandra : Ewa : Łukasz : Katarzyna : Roman : Tomasz : Anna : Agnieszka : Jerzy Władysław : Oryginalny artykuł naukowyACPartykuł w czasopiśmie polskim4.606IF : 998599140.0000140.000PUNKTACJA KBNPUNKTACJA MINISTERSTWALISTA FILADELFIJSKAIMPACT FACTOR140.000PUNKTACJA UWM : 009859.000 : Q : 003 : Vol. 38 : 2083-1862 : CC-BY-SA

In women, the mean HGS of the right and the left hand, respectively, was 33.08 ą 3.57kg and 33.69 ą 2.95kg. For men, mean HGS of right and left hand were 55.79 ą 7.62kg and 54.63 ą 7.93kg, respectively. Furthermore, for men HGS was positively correlated with skeletal muscle mass (r = 0.39), lower limb length (r = 0.33) and chest circumference measured on inspiration (r = 0.33), but not on expiration. There was no significant correlation between HGS, age, and BMI. Conclusions: Our study adds to the body of evidence demonstrating an alarmingly high proportion of soldiers with diagnosed obesity. Military medical flight personnel had higher mean handgrip strength as compared to reference values in the male group and in the female group in the left hand. Experts estimate that only one third of adolescents undertake sufficient physical activity to guarantee normal physical, mental and emotional development. Study aims: To determine the frequency of PE (Physical Education) lessons as well as after-school movement activities and sedentary behaviour. To establish the association between physical activity, TV watching and computer use (screen time) with the risks of overweight and obesity in students. Material and methods: A survey of 3,548 middle school students, 4,423 from high school and 5,595 university students was performed in 2011. In the former two groupings, the questionnaire had been devised by Poland's GIS (Chief Sanitary Inspectorate), based on one previously employed for WHO global school-based student health survey (GSHS) studies. The university students used an electronic questionnaire made available on an internet site from Lublin, Poland. Results: Half the middle and high school students undertook 2 to 5 hours of physical activity per week, while only 16% of university students did so. In their free time after school, one quarter of middle and high school students engaged in selected sporting activities, usually for one hour each week. To assess body mass for students in Poland, in middle schools, high schools and universities, according to growth charts and BMI. Also, to investigate the link between chosen dietary habits and the risks to these subjects of being overweight and obese. Material and methods: The 13,566 subjects surveyed in 2011 consisted of middle school (3,548), high school (4,423) and university (5,595) students. The two younger groups received a questionnaire that had been devised by GIS (Poland's Chief Sanitary Inspectorate) based on one previously used for the WHO's global school-based student health survey (GSHS). An electronic questionnaire was used for the university students, made available at a designated internet site. Results: Overweight rates of 13%, 11% and 14% were found in students from middle-school, high-school and university. Overall obesity rates were 3%. Most subject ate three meals daily, although almost 1 in 5 said they ate only 1 to 2 meals daily. Snacking between meals was admitted by 84%, 89% and 89% of students, respectively, whereas corresponding rates for nighttime eating were 24%, 37% and 36%. Conclusions: The survey demonstrated that overweight status, according to growth charts and BMI, occurs in 13%, 11% and 14% of subjects in each student group, respectively.
