The following characteristics of LWA were defined: contact angle (CA), absorptivity, roughness, surface free energy (SFE) before and after the UV radiation durability test, thermal conductivity coefficient ?, compressive strength, freezing-thawing, salt resistance and others. Open porosity was examined using computed tomography, it reached 20.987 % for the ceramic waste aggregate, and 7.023 % for the reference aggregate. The aggregate with the largest amount of ceramic waste (20 %) and sewage sludge (10 %) has the highest average roughness (Ra), which is 14 % higher than the Ra of the reference aggregate. The contact angle decreased by almost 4 times and samples had higher absorptivity (19.994 %) when 10 % sewage sludge and 20 % sanitary ceramic were added to the aggregate. The sanitary ceramic waste application may enhance the poor durability characteristics of lightweight aggregate with/without sewage sludge. The physical properties of mortars were investigated in the experimental part, which also explored the impact of hydrophobisation and basalt fibres (BF) addition on SFE, frost resistance, contact angle (CA), and roughness. A device capable of calculating all parameters was used to indicate the surface roughness and 3D topography. Prior to and after conducting surface and weight hydrophobisation, the contact angle of mortars was specified. Subsequently, it was used for carrying out SFE calculation by means of Neumann's method, enabling us to characterize the adhesion properties and wettability of mortars. The research indicated that the surface roughness was substantially decreased, in turn raising the frost resistance. The corrosion resistance drops when the surface roughness, water absorption, and number of fibres in the mortar increase. The SEM images presenting the structure of polysiloxane coating and mortars were provided.mortarbasalt fibreroughnesssurface free, A 003 Vol. 10 działalność statutowa WNET PSW CC-BY 2073-4360003Effect of Polysiloxanes on Roughness and Durability of Basalt Fibres - Reinforced Cement MortarPolymers20182073-43602017/201810.3390/polym10040420Jarosz-Hadam, MonikapolysiloxanesKopia dostępna w Sekcji Bibliometrii.FINAL_PUBLISHEDThe influence of roughness and the way it affects the adhesion properties and surface free energy (SFE) of polysiloxanes hydrophobised basalt fibres-reinforced cement mortars were determined in this article. The experimental part pertains to the physical properties of mortars modified with basalt fibres as well as the influence of basalt fibres and hydrophobisation on the roughness, contact angle, surface free energy and frost resistance. Indication of surface roughness and 3D topography was carried out in a device enabling calculation of all parameters. The contact angle of mortars (?w) was determined before and after hydrophobisation by means of a single measurement liquid. It constituted the basis for SFE calculation with Neumann's method, characterizing the wettability and adhesion properties of mortars. The studies enabled to determine the hydrophobisation efficiency of mortars with basalt fibres. The obtained results confirmed the possibility of producing the mortars reinforced with basalt fibres and characterized by appropriate protection of surface against moisture and frost, which depends on, i.a. surface roughness.^abasalt fibres^amortar^aroughness
