p-ISSN: The aim of the article is to indicate the importance of the role of the professional environment in shaping social competences. Thus, the research problem refers to the question: what is the role of the professional environment in shaping the social competences of the commanding staff of officers of the Polish Armed Forces? The publication is a continuation of the article Fri "Social competence of the commanding staff of officers of the Polish Armed Forces in the military security system of Poland". In the dynamically changing reality, due to the continuous development of science and technology, the process of professional improvement and updating knowledge is the basis for the effective performance of duties by employees. The level of social competence has a decisive impact on the level of human specialisation, its responsibility to perform various social roles and, therefore, is important in the professional life of every human being.

Despite various complaints about the deepening degree devaluation or lifetime employment coming under pressure due to changing markets, there seems to be no perceived shortfall in students' aspirations for acquiring degrees worldwide. Also in Poland higher educational institutions appear to do well conversely to a drastic decline in the numbers of the young people's generation. As recent estimations indicate, many young Poles have started their higher education or intend to enter universities, and their numbers are the highest in the OECD countries. Also, the Central Statistical Office in Poland (GUS) reports confirm that the percentage of those with higher education degrees has reached its new peak in the present decade. The inspiration to undertake research on the role of social competences in the career of the junior commander officers of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland Land Forces is the ongoing process of professionalization of the armed forces, in particular in the area of human resources management. Research inquiries are focused on the participation of social competences in the career of junior commander officers in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland Land Forces in the aspect of threats to military security. The assumption of this publication is, among others, the analysis of the level of awareness of the interested, as to their strengths and weaknesses, of the profile of social competences held in the context of performing official tasks in conditions of military threats.
