Polish universities, similarly to other state institutions, receive financial resources for this purpose from the budget. Within the legal framework, students can obtain financial support in the form of social and special scholarships, allowances for the disabled, rector's scholarships for academic performance, grants and the minister's scholarships for outstanding achievements in science or sport. Receiving a particular form of assistance depends on meeting formal criteria specified for each type of assistance. The following article aims at analyzing the types of material support provided at PSW, a university in Biała Podlaska, their amount and impact on the students' socio-economic situation in terms of satisfying their existential needs. It attempts to determine to what extent the financial aid provides students with security and diminishes their fears about the future. Commonly, the areas of citizen and public protection refer to health, education, social issues or culture. Accordingly, the subject literature often comes forward with the term "social security" to refer to the issues of social exclusion. It covers a widely understood state support that provides a minimum standard of living, including free access to education, cultural events and health treatment for individuals and their families. However, social security may also refer to young people involved in the educational process who do not have sufficient funds to secure their educational needs.     L_PUBLISHED^bCC-BY-NC^cBEFORE_PUBLICATION^eOPEN_JOURNAL^aThe aim of the research was to acquire knowledge about students' physical activity in their free time according to their chosen faculties. Subject of the research were the students from seven faculties in two universities from Biala Podlaska: computer science, public health, medicine, nursing, tourism and recreation, physiotherapy and PE (physical education] - 548 people in total were the participants. In the work, the method of diagnostic survey based upon the questionnaire technique was applied. Faculty is the aspect that has great impact on the type of chosen forms of physical activities, reasons of its choice, barrier and importance of physical activities in the participants' lives. Students from such faculties as PE and tourism and recreation show more physical activity in contrast to students from other faculties.
