Streszczenie: Imlementation of revitalization processes is possible thanks to territorial self-government entities undertaking comprehensive actions with the support of UE funds. At present, revitalization is becoming one of the most important goals of strategic actions undertaken by Polish towns, which by using EU instruments, among others, in the first programming period 2004-2006, were able to renovate crisis areas, involving in these actions inhabitants, entrepreneurs and local institutions. The paper aims to characterize and assess the effects of using EU funds for implementing revitalization processes under LRPs in the Małopolskie voivodship during the first programming period of 2004-2006, and to analyze the possibilities in this area created by the new financial perspective for 2007-2013. Due to the complexity of the revitalization process and the difficulties in its implementation, in the paper we will try to present the barriers and problems connected both with the utilization of structural funds and with developing LRPs themselves, prepared for the needs of acquiring EU funds for revitalization. Liquidation of the observed bariers, at both central and local levels, should contribute to more efficient acquisition and better utilization of the funds for revitalization in the new financial perspective 2007-2013 and in the subsequent programming periods.
