Streszczenie: The hosts of Hantavirus are rodents, while they are transmitted to humans via aerosol, or by direct contact with them. The primary goal of the study was evaluation of the state of health of forestry workers by laboratory diagnosis of the diseases caused by Hantavirus Dobrava/Hantaan. The study covered a group of 820 randomly selected employees of the State Forests from 32 Forest Districts located in the area of the whole of Poland. The results of the study show that the largest number of positive results were registered in the Augustów Forest District - 3 cases (10%), and in Piotrków Trybunalski - 3 cases (11.5%). For the whole of Poland, 25 seropositive results were noted (3%) and 76 results were doubtful (9.3%). The results of the conducted study suggest the occurrence of Hantavirus Dobrava in large forest complexes on the territory of Poland. People residing and working in these areas are exposed to infection, and this exposure seems to be comparable with data from other countries.

Streszczenie: The genus Hantavirus belongs to a large family of viruses Bunyaviridae. In humans, infection happens through the respiratory system (inhalation of secretions of infected rodents with dust) or through the direct contact with a rodent. The bank vole (Myodes glareolus), which inhabits areas of almost the whole of Europe, is especially responsible for the transmission of hantavirus serotype Puumala. The primary goal of the study was evaluation of the state of health of forestry workers by laboratory diagnosis of diseases caused by hantaviruses serotype Puumala. The study covered a group of 820 randomly selected workers of the State Forests from 32 Forest Districts located in the area of the whole Poland. The results show that the largest number of seropositive results among forestry workers was obtained in the Regions of Łódź, Rzeszów and Bydgoszcz. The largest number of positive results, 3 (11.5%), were noted in the Piotrków Trybunalski Forestry District in the Łódź Region. In the whole of Poland, 12 seropositive results were noted (1.5%) and 26 doubtful (3.2%). The distribution of the positive and doubtful results obtained may suggest that in given regions large populations of bank vole may occur. Bank voles is the vector of hantavirus serotype Puumala. The conducted studies suggest the occurrence of hantaviruses Puumala in large forest complexes in the area of eastern and central Poland, and in the Kłodawa area of the Zielona Góra Region. People residing and working in these areas are exposed to infection. This infection seems to be comparable with the data from other countries. The majority of the cases of infection probably have an asymptomatic course.

Streszczenie: Introduction: A food allergy is a group of symptoms occurring in the organism and resulting from consuming some food, where the problems are conditioned by immunological mechanisms. The symptoms may become apparent first in adulthood and they may be an initial manifestation of a latent allergy. Typical symptoms of a food allergy occur in different organs, thus not only in the digestive system, but also in the skin, respiratory system and circulatory system. Aim: To assess the frequency of food allergy onset in rural areas of the Lublin region as well as to determine which factors induce such allergies. Material and methods: A survey was conducted, involving the participation of 340 inhabitants of rural areas. The study monitored the knowledge and situation of the disease, concerning allergens, allergy symptoms, methods of treatment and opinions regarding such treatment. Results: The analysis focused on 124 people with diagnosed allergies. Conclusions: Introducing a diet did not result in a statistically significant difference regarding elimination of the symptoms, as compared to the patients who did not follow any diet. On the other hand, pharmacological treatment causes statistically worse results than using other methods or not being treated at all. The patients in whom allergy symptoms disappeared were more convinced about the positive character of their diet than those in whom the symptoms were not eliminated. The age when the allergy becomes evident does not affect its duration, yet it matters as to the time of its later elimination. The more symptoms were experienced by a patient, the longer the duration of the allergy was.

Streszczenie: Medications can cause many adverse reactions, both non-immunologic and immunologic ones. Allergies can take many forms, allergic reactions include all types of reactions according to Gell and Coombs. Typically, allergic reactions to drugs are manifested by skin lesions such as maculopapular rash or urticaria and life-threatening systemic reactions such as anaphylaxis. Allergy to drugs is diagnosed based on medical history and a number of specific tests: skin tests, blood tests. In diagnosing the causes of anaphylaxis, the basophil activation test is used to exclude false negative and false positive results of skin tests and specific IgE levels. Allergic reactions to medications usually resolve themselves after discontinuation of the drug. Sometimes in the treatment anti-allergic drugs are used to inhibit the development of skin lesions. After observing any signs of drug allergy it is important to accurately diagnose the cause, since the subsequent exposure to the drug may lead to a strong anaphylactic reaction and consequently death.
