The observations were conducted by teachers working in primary schools in Poland. The selection of the sample for the study was purposeful as it targeted foreign students attending primary schools in Poland in rural or urban areas. Altogether, the teachers carried out 211 pedagogical observations, which were then subjected to statistical analysis. Taking up the research topic in the assessment of health-promoting models of behaviour in children and adolescents is a current scientific issue due to the fact that the above-mentioned models of behaviour constitute the basis for the proper development of young people and determine the state of human health in childhood, as well as adulthood. On the other hand, conducting the research on a group of foreign children who came to Poland in recent years, mainly from Ukraine, will help diagnose their learned behaviours in times when they lack peaceful life. The research results will be helpful in school practice for Polish teachers in undertaking targeted educational activities and, if necessary, conducting interventions for those in need of support. Health-promoting models of behaviour are indicators of attitudes towards health, which result from the values adopted by individuals. Therefore, the need to advise, support and help young people to shape them properly should be emphasized. Wyniki badań pokazały różnice w zakresie wykorzystania emoji i emotikonów w grupie badanych uczniów, szczególnie dotyczyły one rozróżniania wymienionych znaków graficznych, używania ich przy pisaniu postów, celu i częstotliwości wykorzystywania. Streszczenie: Nowadays, it is difficult to imagine life without the use of instant messaging applications containing emoticons and emoji. Due to their ever-growing popularity, it was noticed that there was a need to carry out a pedagogical research among pupils (N = 89) from selected primary schools in the Biala Podlaska district in the Lubelskie voivodeship in order to find out their scope and ways of using them, with particular attention paid to the type of communication, emotions conveyed and situations. The results of study showed differences in the use of emoji and emoticons among the group of pupils surveyed, particularly in terms of distinguishing the aforementioned graphic signs, their use when writing posts, purpose and frequency of use.

Therefore the aim of the current research was to determine the quality of primary school's work in its main areas as evaluated by parents. Materials and methods: The theoretical insights on the quality of school's work were obtained on the basis of the review of the literature on the subject and acts of education law. The empirical data from the research was gathered through the diagnostic survey method with the use of the author's research tool, i.e., a questionnaire addressed to parents of students in grades IV-VIII attending one of the primary schools in the Biała Podlaska District (N = 103). Results: The obtained data showed quite a diverse assessment of the quality of the primary school's work in some of its areas. Conclusions: Most of the parents surveyed gave specific proposals for actions to improve the quality of the school's work, mainly concerning the increase of their participation not only in financial aid, but also in the didactic and educational area, which well forecasts and prompts school authorities and tutors to recommend the above-mentioned proposals and implement them in real life. Streszczenie: Przedmiot i cel pracy: W czasach nieustannie dokonujących się przemian w sferze edukacji szczególnego znaczenia nabierają te, które podążają w kierunku poprawy jakości pracy szkoły, dlatego celem przeprowadzonych badań było poznanie oceny jakości pracy szkoły podstawowej dokonanej przez rodziców w głównych jej obszarach. Materiały i metody: Spostrzeżenia teoretyczne zawarte w artykule w zakresie jakości pracy szkoły pozyskano na podstawie przeglądu literatury przedmiotu i aktów prawa oświatowego. Dane empiryczne z badań pozyskano za pomocą metody sondażu diagnostycznego przy zastosowaniu narzędzia badawczego własnego autorstwa, tj. ankiety skierowanej do rodziców uczniów klas IV -VIII uczęszczających do jednej ze szkół podstawowych na terenie powiatu bialskiego (N=103). Wyniki: Pozyskane dane ukazały dość zróżnicowaną ocenę jakości pracy szkoły podstawowej w niektórych jej obszarach. Do zadań szkoły z racji pełnionej misji edukacyjnej i wychowawczej należy kształtowanie nawyków, zachowań i postaw promujących zdrowe odżywianie. Dlatego słuszne wydaje się podjęcie i przeprowadzenie badań wśród uczniów szkoły podstawowej w celu poznania ich świadomości w zakresie zdrowego odżywiania oraz działań realizowanych przez szkoły z edukacji żywieniowej. W części empirycznej artykułu zaprezentowano analizę wyników badań przeprowadzonych wśród uczniów klas drugich i trzecich (N=170) w kilku wybranych szkołach podstawowych na terenie Powiatu Bialskiego w woj. lubelskim. Dopełnieniem badań ilościowych były badania jakościowe przeprowadzone w formie indywidualnych wywiadów z 8 nauczycielami-wychowawcami uczniów klas objętych badaniem. Analiza i interpretacja uzyskanych wyników badań z jednej strony pokazała wysoki poziom wiedzy badanych uczniów w zakresie zdrowego odżywiania, na co w dużym stopniu mają wpływ atrakcyjne działania edukacyjne prowadzone przez nauczycieli, a z drugiej strony oceniła sposób odżywiania uczniów, który w wielu obszarach budzi niepokój i wymaga integracji z rodzinami. Streszczenie: In our times, the knowledge of good nutrition as an important health factor is an element of social awareness. One of the primary responsibilities of schools, which perform educational and didactic functions, is to increase this knowledge and develop habits and attitudes promoting healthy eating. Therefore, it seems advisable to undertake and conduct research among primary school students in order to learn about their awareness of healthy eating and about nutrition education activities undertaken by schools. In the empirical part of the article, there is an analysis of the findings of the research conducted among second- and third-graders (N=170) in selected primary schools across the Biała Podlaska district in the Lublin voivodeship. The quantitative research is complemented with the qualitative research in the form of individual interviews with eight form teachers responsible for the classes covered by the study. The analysis and interpretation of the results, on the one hand, indicated a high level of pupils' knowledge of good nutrition, which is largely influenced by the interesting educational activities conducted by the teachers. On the other hand, such analysis evaluated the pupils' diet which, in many aspects, gives rise to concern and requires integration with their families.

W sytuacji kiedy polski system szkolnictwa przechodzi kolejną reformę, zarówno strukturalną, jak i programową, przygotowanie nauczycieli do jej wdrażania, szczególnie w zakresie kompetencji zawodowych, wydaje się mieć kluczowe znaczenie. Jakość pracy nauczycieli, ich merytoryczne przygotowanie jest jednak najważniejsze nie tylko z punktu widzenia sprawnego wdrażania reform - na czym wydaje się szczególnie zależy autorom reform, ale ze względu na główny podmiot edukacyjnych oddziaływań, czyli dziecko i jego wszechstronny rozwój. Efektywnie prowadzona edukacja w przedszkolu i na I etapie edukacyjnym zagwarantuje uczniom sukces w kolejnych etapach kształcenia. Dlatego wydaje się słuszne podjęcie częściowych badań wśród nauczycieli wychowania przedszkolnego i edukacji wczesnoszkolnej w celu zdiagnozowania, na podstawie ich samooceny, kompetencji zawodowych oraz potrzeb i oczekiwań w zakresie doskonalenia zawodowego. Ten cel główny zrealizowano poprzez przeprowadzenie badań wśród nauczycieli pracujących w przedszkolach i w klasach I-III ze szkół podstawowych na terenie powiatu bialskiego i miasta Biała Podlaska w woj. lubelskim. W badaniach zastosowano metodę sondażu diagnostycznego z użyciem kwestionariusza ankiety. Wyniki badań dostarczyły interesujących informacji na temat samooceny nauczycieli w zakresie oznaczenia poziomu własnych kompetencji zawodowych na trzystopniowej skali. Na uwagę zasługuje fakt, że większość nauczycieli sytuuje swoje kompetencje na drugim, czyli średnim poziomie. Przeprowadzone badania pozwoliły także zinwentaryzować i opisać skalę potrzeb i oczekiwań nauczycieli w zakresie doskonalenia zawodowego, które warunkują nie tylko własny rozwój, ale są niezbędne w efektywnej pracy z dziećmi. Streszczenie: Among many factors that influence the quality and effectiveness of the work of a school, kindergarten or another educational institution, a teacher and his/her professional competences are very important. At the time when the Polish educational system is undergoing another reform, both in terms of structure and curriculum, the preparation of teachers to implement it, especially in terms of professional competences, seems to be of key significance. The quality of teachers' work, their substantial preparation, is not only crucial for the proper implementation of reforms - which seems to be particularly important for the authors of the reforms - but for the main subject of educational actions, i. e. the child and its general development. Effective teaching in the kindergarten and at the first level of education shall make it possible for the students to achieve success at the further stages of education. That is why, it seems right to take up partial research among kindergarten and early education teachers in order to diagnose, on the basis of their self-assessment, professional competences, as well as the needs and expectations in terms of professional improvement. That main objective was fulfilled due to the research carried out among the teachers working in kindergartens and classes I-III of primary schools from the Biała Podlaska region and city, in the Lublin voivodeship. The method of a diagnostic survey with the use of a questionnaire was applied in the research. The research results provided interesting information on the teachers' self-assessment of their own competences on a three-grade scale. It is worth mentioning that most teachers situate their competences at the second, i. e. medium level. Also, the research made it possible to collect and describe the scale of the teachers' needs and expectations in terms of professional improvement, which influences both their own development and the effective work with children.

Streszczenie: Contemporary people increasingly often face the need or necessity for communicating with other people in a non-native language. There are a lot of reasons which stimulate starting to learn a foreign language. Technological development and the appearance of global language communication as well as international markets all over the world increase the demand for using foreign languages. In Europe emphasis is put on starting to learn a foreign language early. Popularising multilingualism, i.e. the knowledge of a native language, one language of a neighbouring country and a language of international significance, is already discussed in the Treaty on European Union, called the Maastricht Treaty (signed in 1922) and in White Paper on Education and Training (1996). These two documents are in effect in Poland, which joined the European Union on 1 May 2004. With reference to school education, the Polish Ministry of National Education drew up objectives to achieve in primary schools. A key place among them is taken by shaping the ability of using correctly the native language and having communicative knowledge of one foreign language. Having in mind the above-mentioned objectives as well as the ongoing social and economic changes in the contemporary world, research was conducted in order to diagnose pupils' interests and their motivation to learn foreign languages already at the stage of early elementary education. The research was conducted in 2018 in 2 selected primary schools in Lublin Province in the borderland between Poland and Belarus, among 102 second and third formers. The method of a diagnostic survey and an interview technique were applied in the research. The author's own interview questionnaire was used as a research tool. An important assumption of the research was determining the impact of a geographical factor, which is the borderland between Poland and Belarus where the schools participating in the research are located, on pupils' motivation and interest in learning foreign languages. The research results showed significant differences among pupils, depending on a school they attend. Some of the researched pupils have difficulty learning foreign languages and acquiring language skills. The most interesting and the pupils' favourite method of learning turned out to be the Audiolingual Method. The research demonstrated that some methods applied by teachers, e.g. working with the text, are tiresome and not motivating in the opinion of the researched pupils. The compiled results of the study are not only valuable scientifically but also practically, because they are going to be used by the teachers of foreign languages.

Streszczenie: Key objectives which are currently set for Polish primary schools include all actions connected with shaping pupils' key competences, especially the linguistic, mathematical and computer ones but also competences in the area of health. This orientation of education towards health and its promotion at the early elementary level, both as far as knowledge, skills and pupils' attitudes are concerned, is commonly realised in Polish school practice. The orientation of educational and pedagogical activity in primary schools towards health education results from curricular guidelines drawn up by the Polish Ministry of National Education, where the most stressed issue is the harmonious development of children, taking into consideration their needs, expectations and sometimes the necessity for therapy. On the other hand, the challenges of modernday civilisation indicate that all people would like to be healthy, fit, and active physically and socially. Therefore, health education realised in schools is particularly important, especially at the level of preschool and early elementary education. It results, to a large degree, from the developmental regularities of children of this age, acquiring certain habits by them and from education for values, including health. It is at the above-mentioned educational stage that teachers can accomplish the most. They pass the knowledge about health to their pupils, they form correct habits, attitudes, lifestyles as well as the quality of life. Despite the fact that it is a long-term process, it requires proper involvement, methods and even patience and cooperation on the part of pupils' parents. Having in mind the significance of health education in people's lives, the authors decided to conduct research whose main objective was to diagnose the practical dimension of providing health education in urban and rural environments in four randomly selected primary schools located in the district of Biała Podlaska, Lublin Province. The parents of children participating in the research gave written consent. Before starting the research, the following detailed objectives were formulated: 1) What health knowledge do second and third formers have?; 2) What educational activities concerning health did the pupils participate in?; 3) Can primary schools meet children's expectations relating to health?; 4) Do parents cooperate with teachers when choosing health topics?; 5) To what extent does the living environment affect pupils' health education? The research was conducted in two stages. In the first stage eight- and nine-year-old pupils were researched with the method of a diagnostic survey and a questionnaire technique. Overall, the research included 250 people. In the second stage of the study the researchers conducted individual interviews with the teachers who work with the above-mentioned pupils. This is due to the fact that the extent of this phenomenon and the frequency of its occurrence, especially among children, have been on the increase over the past years. Therefore, this issue is addressed by more and more specialists from the field of psychology, pedagogy, medicine, education and sociology. Children suffering from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder are not only restless but also impulsive and inattentive. Furthermore, they have behavior issues and learning difficulties. These symptoms make it difficult for such a child to function normally within the family, in the peer group or at school. Thus, children with ADHD often do not have friends, and even the immediate family members cannot understand their unusual behavior which is often not adequate for the situation. Historically, the incidence of ADHD was attributed to many different factors. However, nowadays it is believed that it is an inherited polygenic disorder and there is no particular gene responsible for its occurrence. In order for a child to function properly in a school environment and to cope with the demands of daily life, the incidence, causes and symptoms of ADHD should be diagnosed as soon as possible, and the therapy should be commenced at the right time. Therefore, the purpose of this qualitative research was to identify different methods and effects of the therapy administered to a pupil diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The pupil started to attend the first grade of primary school in Biała Podlaska, Lublin Province, Poland. The method of a case study was employed in this qualitative research because in case of therapy, education or even upbringing it is difficult to compare diagnosis and effects. Furthermore, qualitative research with its data analysis and conclusions will be useful for other people with similar problems.

A second language was introduced as a compulsory subject in kindergarten and primary school and two compulsory foreign languages in general lower and upper secondary schools. English is the most popular of all languages in all types of schools, regardless of the level of education they represent. Globalization of the English language, the process which can be observed nowadays, has a significant impact on actions taken by schools to popularize learning this language. Therefore, the research was performed with a view to achieving a better understanding of the popularization of English language learning in primary schools in the larger context of a variety of factors. Basing on the analysis of research results, the conclusions reflecting real needs of learners as far as the more effective English language learning is concerned have been drawn. Sharing the research findings with the primary schools which participated in the research will contribute to their practical application.

Streszczenie: The aim of this paper was to draw attention to the problem of education of children of different nationalities who come with their parents to Poland. The law requires that all children who are stying in Poland should attend school. At school children learn the Polish language, they learn to make first relationships, overcome barriers, prejudices and phobias. The research in selected primary schools in the county of Bielsk allowed to get acquainted with the difficulties that theachers overcome every day, working in intercultural classes. Badania przeprowadzono w roku szkolnym 2008/2009 metodą sondażu diagnostycznego oraz Międzynarodowym Testem Sprawności Fizycznej. Badaniami objęto 740 uczniów z 26 oddziałów klas IV, V i VI. Wyniki badań wykazały, że badani uczniowie w większości posiadali średni poziom sprawności fizycznej. Wraz z wiekiem zmniejszał się procent uczennic z wysoką sprawnością fizyczną, a rósł tych z niską sprawnością. Wśród chłopców odsetek uczniów z wysokim poziomem sprawności fizycznej zwiększał się wprost proporcjonalnie do ich wieku. Badani uczniowie uzyskali w większości średnie i wysokie wyniki w nauce szkolnej. Procent chłopców z wysokimi wynikami w nauce zmniejszał się w klasach starszych, a wśród dziewcząt odwrotnie. Odsetek uczniów z niskimi wynikami w nauce szkolnej zwiększył się w klasach VI. Dziewczęta z wysoką sprawnością fizyczną uzyskały wyższą ogólną średnią ocen za naukę szkolną, niż chłopcy z wysoką sprawnością fizyczną. Uczennice z niskim poziomem sprawności fizycznej, także osiągnęły wyższą ogólną średnią ocen za naukę, niż chłopcy. Streszczenie: The purpose of this study was to discover existing connections between physical fitness and academic results among the IV - VI grade students of primary schools in Biała Podlaska. The study was conducted in the school year 2008/2009, using the diagnostic poll method and the International Physical Fitness Test. 740 students from 26 classes of IV, V and VI grade students took part in the study. The results showed that most of the students displayed average physical fitness. Moreover, among the girls, the older the individuals, the lower the percentage with above-average physical fitness and the higher the percentage with below-average physical fitness. Among the boys, the percentage of students with above -average physical fitness increased proportionally to their age. The students had mostly average and above-average academic results. The percentage of boys with above-average academic results decreased in higher grades, the opposite can be said about the girls. The percentage of students with below-average academic results increased in the group of VI grade students. The girls with above-average physical fitness had a higher general grade average than boys with above-average physical fitness. Female students with below-average physical fitness also had a higher general grade average than did boys.
